Join an expert led training session from experienced horticulturalists, landscapers, landscape designers and commercial trade/suppliers as they demonstrate the practical application of design principles to achieve a beautiful garden design, focussed on Waterwise principles.

WORKSHOP SESSIONS
Experienced and professional horticulturalists, landscapers, landscape designers and commercial trade/suppliers will demonstrate the practical application of design principles to achieve a beautiful garden design, focussed on Waterwise principles.

These workshops cover various aspects of sustainable gardening practices, aiming to minimize environmental impact while maximizing the beauty and functionality of home gardens.
Each workshop is broken up into two sessions on each day, three in the morning and three in the afternoon. And each workshop is being presented by professionals who have decades of expertise, knowledge and insight to present on these specific topics.
There are only 120 places available. Therefore, we ask interested parties to register for one session only please! We’d like as many people as possible to experience these workshops.
SESSION ONE
Focussing on design and selection of plants, irrigation and hydrozoning, pest and disease management.

Focussing on turf management, soil health and garden maintenance.

Bring your house plans and photos of your house. Get inspired and equipped with the skills and understanding needed to create thriving, sustainable gardens that contribute positively to the environment and local ecosystems. Join a workshop for demonstrations, hands-on activities, planning and Q&A sessions, allowing participants to gain practical knowledge and interact with experts on the following topics:
Irrigation methods: Darren Seinor
Learn water-efficient irrigation methods, such as drip irrigation or rainwater harvesting. Learn to program a smart controller with a mobile phone. Learn how much irrigation is required. (Smart controllers; the rebate subsidies for the right controllers and where to go to get the right irrigation system)
Garden Design & Native and Adaptive Planting: Matt Lunn (Thursday) & Naya Shepherd (Friday)
Learn the use of native and exotic plants and species adapted to the local climate, reducing the need for excessive water and maintenance. Get guidance on selecting plants that attract pollinators and support local biodiversity.
Pest and Disease Management: Leah Stratford, Entomologist – Plant Biosecurity and Sustainability
Learn methods for controlling pests and diseases in an eco-friendly manner, without relying on harmful chemicals. Integrated Pest Management (IPM) techniques emphasizing prevention and natural remedies. Enjoying biodiversity in the garden – using good bugs to improve the quality of the garden.
Soil Health and Composting: Jo Bussell
Learn the importance of healthy soil and techniques for improving soil quality using composting and organic matter. Take a hands-on demonstration on composting practices suitable for home gardens. Soils for suburbs – ameliorating soils.
Turf Management: Michael Maartinez
Regular mowing: Species selection, maintain ideal height for grass species; determine water requirements (cups); spacing of irrigation; fertilizers; soil and amelioration; weed control and targeted herbicides; pests and diseases; turf density; dethatching and topdressing.
Seasonal Gardening and Maintenance: Ben Sims
Understand seasonal gardening practices, including planting calendars and maintenance routines. Demonstrating mulching and ongoing care techniques tailored to different seasons.
